Midland College invites the community to attend the Chaps Basketball games as the women's and men's teams take on the Howard College Hawks. Special guest will be former MC Men's Basketball Coach Jerry Stone who will autograph copies of his book Save Them All: One Coach's Quest.
Coach Stone holds the school record for most wins in Midland College men's basketball history and led the Chaps to the 1982 NJCAA Men's National Basketball Championship (along with then assistant coach Reggie Franklin). During his time at MC, Stone developed several NBA players including Anthony "Spud" Webb, Daron "Mookie" Blaylock, Ricky Grace and Herman "Skeeter" Henry, as well as many major college basketball stars.
Forty-two years of coaching basketball assembled in the autobiography of Jerry Stone provide unusual insight for the reader of Save Them All. Coach Stone has examined the game of competitive basketball through the eyes of the player, the coach and even the parent at virtually every level of the sport. Coaching involves breaking down each phase of a game to the purest of fundamentals. The same effort must be exerted toward the individual player in hopes that a team bond results. Coach Stone’s book has placed a great deal of emphasis on both. The result is a story that is uniquely his own. Paying attention to detail has consistently been his forte. From the high school hopeful to the NBA professional, Stone reveals numerous anecdotes that delight and inform. But throughout the writing, the heart of the story is always centered on attitude and effort.

The Allison Fine Arts Building McCormick Gallery proudly exhibits "In Place," a collection of original art by Regina Agu and Shannon Crider. Show runs February 28-April 11.
This exhibition includes two Houston-based artists, both of whom were residents of the 2017-2018 Artist Studio Program at Lawndale Art Center. Regina Agu and Shannon Crider work across multiple mediums, drawing from pop culture references and lived experiences. They create alluring and subtly subversive artworks seeking to tell stories that have been otherwise suppressed.
Regina Agu’s work is conceptually oriented towards language, history and representation. She addresses these as they coalesce in contemporary ideas around landscape. Her practice involves research and explorations of “site,” including histories and theories of landscape photography, architecture, the built environment, the landscape, environmental justice and spatial politics," particularly their intersections around communities of color. More information about Regina Agu.
Through re-photographing and re-staging stills from television, Shannon Crider's work investigates the impact of contemporary representations of women in our televisual culture. Her two- and three-dimensional works employ collage, sewing and print to construct new spaces that reflect the psychogenic space of female subjectivity in popular culture. More information about Shannon Crider.
Gallery hours: 8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Friday
