Make the most out of your summer with MC classes. The first summer session runs June 3-July 9.
The Midland Young Leaders Challenge with General Tommy Franks is a two-day intensive leadership workshop for approximately 30 selected Midland County students who have just completed the 11th grade. The workshop offers students the opportunity to learn and practice critical skills that will help mold them into tomorrow's leaders. Participants are eligible for $6,000 in scholarships that accompany the program, and can advance to the national leadership conference.
The focus of the workshop focuses on teaching students the “four stars of leadership”--character, communication, common vision and caring. Throughout the two-day workshop, panel discussions are led by a diverse group of local leaders, and students participate in speech and op-ed article competitions.
The workshop culminates with a reception and awards ceremony on Thursday, June 13 at 6:00 pm in the Allison Fine Arts Building Wagner & Brown Auditorium. At the awards ceremony, four peer-selected speech and article winners are awarded scholarships of $1,000, $2,000, or $3,000. The “four-star” winner is then invited to advance to General Franks’ weeklong Four Star Leadership program later in the summer in Oklahoma.
The Midland Young Leaders Challenge celebrates the legacy of Tommy Franks who grew up in Midland and became a military hero. Franks achieved the rank of a four star general during his decorated Army career, which included many honors, including being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
